Georgia - just another summer conflict

It seems like this summer everyone's looking to fight. Iraq, Lebanon-Israel, Ethiopia-Somalia, and now Georgia.

Georgia's two main ongoing conflicts have been with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both breakaway regions of Georgia. This is nothing new - it's been there in the background for years. Neither is it news that Russia has peacekeeping forces in the regions in question. They've also been there for years. What is news is that since Georgia adopted a resolution on July 18 to replace the Russian peacekeepers with an international contingent, Russia's been keen to "help out" with the situation. Abkhazia and South Ossetia are both looking towards Russia for help, Georgia and Russia don't have good relations, Russia's all excited about the global situation (look at its close ties to Syria) - put two and two together and you can clearly see that right now, it sucks to be Georgia.

Well, it's a good thing massive American cash and effort, above and below the table, went into making Georgia and Lebanon peaceful democracies. It's just like Underpants Gnome Thomas Friedman says: call yourself a democracy/deregulated "flexibility-minded" globalizer/Napoleon ... and ... PROFIT!

Five shot one dead three in critical condition in the SEATTLE Jewish Federation
Pakistani man, allegedly claiming to be acting in reprisal for the Israeli situation, walked in and shot the place up, told someone to call 911 and then surrendered without incident to police.
A friend in Seattle says the police are now totally locking down the area, which is apparently downtown Seattle, SWAT and bomb squad and so on. Nothing on national news yet but be ready for this to be exploited to its roots.

Yet again we are reminded of how stupid Bush was in saying we're fighting them over there to not have to over here.

For some time now I have been trying to warn people (and I have not been alone) that the peculiar, unique extremist devotion American Jews feel towards Israel is stupid and dangerous. As Ehud Olmert spins out of control without damaging Hizbullah and the neocons in Washington plot more war, all the while to the same old lying tropes from the American Defamation League, AIPAC and Jewish organizations that will not hear Israel criticized or separated from individual Jews, I cannot imagine this will be the end of this.

HOLY SHIT

The guy who shot up the Jewish community center in Seattle was a fundamentalist Christian. If it weren't for blogs we'd all be dead. We are only learning this now, via the General who is not gay; we do not remember hearing anything about this on several of the national mainstream media outlets that repeatedly mentioned the attacker identifying himself as a Muslim.
