My first love was James Joyce, but after a whirlwind romance, he left me for a mollusk. I was watching the Freaks and Geeks DVDs, and listening to the Audio commentary and the producer noted that Faygo is only available in Mich.
I have no idea, but the sign, and the fact that I have never heard of it until that show, and this post would kind of back that claim up.
It's a local Detroit brand of soda, made in Detroit, and largely consumed in Detroit.
I actually saw Faygo for sale in some very unlikely spot a while ago - don't remember exactly where, but it was either Arizona or Nevada. This was unusual enough to grab my attention - indeed, usually Faygo is pretty much only available in Michigan.
I now live in Michigan, and I used to live in Ohio near Cleveland. Faygo is available in Ohio. The main difference between getting Faygo in Ohio and Michigan is that you can find it more easily and in more varieties in Michigan than you can in Ohio.
The Faygo "area code" billboards are also up in the 616 (West Michigan) area.
